Lower Southampton Township has proposed the construction of an $8+ million Community Center on the 9.65 acre property recently purchased on Meadowbrook Avenue. This will include a 40,000 square foot building and parking for 200 cars. It has been estimated to cost the taxpayers an additional $100+ per year.

We the undersigned vehemently demand binding referendum for taxpayers to make the decision on whether or not a Community Center is needed at this time in Lower Southampton. Due to failing stock markets, dwindling retirements funds, lowered property values and rising unemployment, we feel this decision must be decided by the people funding it

We also vehemently oppose using the property at Meadowbrook Road. This site is located in the center of a residential community with non-existent sidewalks and insufficient roadways to accommodate the traffic this facility will create. The imperviousness of a 40,000 square foot building and 200 car parking lot will cause runoff of approximately 3.5 million gallons of rainwater per year. Neighbors in this community already contend with the field lights at adjacent baseball/football fields, and traffic using the neighborhood as a bypass between Bristol and Brownsville Roads, Bridgetown Pike and Elmwood Avenue.

This site is one of the last open space areas in the township and is home to area wildlife that will be eliminated if such a building is constructed.

We, as Lower Southampton residents, feel this placement will truly NOT enhance our lives and will depreciate our already depreciated property values.
