The biggest issues facing the ever rising gas prices across Canada is the government say 2 things. Firstly we are tied to world prices. Secondly natural resources are controlled by provinces and not the federal government.

There was an act created and passed in 1980 that was supposed to break Canada's need to import oil. We would still export oil but oil used by Canadians would be refined and sold in Canada below world prices. The act was phased out back in 1985 due to the fact that world oil prices dropped and the act wasn't needed anymore.

In 2010 we produced 3.483 million barrels a day. We used 2.209 million barrels a day and imported 1.088 million barrels a day. We imported roughly 49% of oil used instead of refining our own. It's true that natural resources are a provincial matter but exporting even the states is federal.

We, the undersigned, call upon the Canadian government to lower the cost of gas across Canada by lowering our need on imported oil and creating a government body to make sure that Canadians pay less than world prices for gasoline.
