Mississippi is the only state in the United States where you have to be 21 to get married without parental consent. Marriages do not fail because of ages, so why should you be 21 to get married. You’re considered an adult at 18 years old, can be convicted as an adult, and could vote and make changes in the community. Statistics says most marriages under 25 end in divorces, but who’s to decide what a couple does to make it last? Marriage fails within the relationship not the age. An age cannot determine whether or not a marriage would last, so the age requirement should be lowered along with the other states around. For as long as you are considered an adult, you should be able to get married without parental consent.

We, the people, call on Mississippi’s government to lower Marriage age laws so there would not be any inconvenience with a decision of a young couple.
