“The Forbidden Kingdom”, the movie which has Jackie Chan and Jet Li to play together after years of demands from fans all around the world and after so many problems caused by the difficulty to find a good and worth plot, is now being filmed.
In order to realize the plan called previously “The J&J Project”, they aimed at the best and at last director Zhang Yimou was chosen (1: http://www.monkeypeaches.com/0508M.html 2: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/news/comments/?entryid=230819).
Later on Yimou dropped the assignement because he said: “Only Jackie Chan can make a Jackie Chan Movie”, so Peter Jackson was supposed to take his place.
Well...they dropped this idea too and chosen at last director Rob Minkoff (“Stuart Little”).
We think he is not a bad director, but HE IS FOR SURE NOT GOOD TO DIRECT A MOVIE LIKE THIS.
Only an oriental production team can handle this kind of movie, with its traditions, its methods, its directors and its way of doing things, but not Rob Minkoff, who has not enough technique and experience on the set about directing oriental action movies and action sequences.
The plot moreover is completely different from the first previews: the story written by John Fusco was previously announced as an “Epic/Action Movie”, but now it turned in a “Family Movie” with SOME action scene.
And the worst part is that Jackie Chan and Jet Li are not the protagonists!!! They have important parts: Sha Monk (Jackie Chan) and Monkey King/Lan Cai He (Jet Li), BUT Michael Angarano, a young american actor, will be the protagonist!
He will be an adolescent American obsessed from kung who find himself in tha Ancient China and joins a group of martial arts masters in order to free Monkey King.

“The Forbidden Kingdom”, il film che vede Jackie Chan e Jet Li recitare assieme dopo anni di richieste dei fan e problemi interni causate dalla difficoltà di trovare una trama che sia all’altezza delle aspettative e dei due attori, ha iniziato le riprese a Maggio 2007.
Per realizzare concretamente il progetto, denominato precedentemente “The JJ Project”, si era puntato al meglio e si era infine parlato del famoso e bravo regista Zhang Yimou (FONTE1: http://www.monkeypeaches.com/0508M.html FONTE2: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/news/comments/?entryid=230819 ). In seguito, accantonata questa idea perché lo stesso Yimou ha affermato che “Solo Jackie Chan può fare un film per Jackie Chan”, si è parlato di Peter Jackson.
Ebbene non solo anche quest’ultimo è stato accantonato, ma si è infine deciso che il regista sarà (e tuttora “è”) Rob Minkoff, regista di “Stuart Little”.
Non che sia un cattivo regista, ma non è ASSOLUTAMENTE ADATTO a girare un film di questo genere, un film che SOLO UNA PRODUZIONE ORIENTALE, con le sue tradizioni, i suoi metodi di fare e i suoi registi, può girare e rendere al meglio. Un film che implica una conoscenza di tecnica e metodi di girare le scene d’azione che il suddetto regista, anche in riferimento alla sua precedente carriera cinematografica, non possiede neanche in minima parte.
La trama inoltre si distacca molto da come si leggeva nelle prime anteprime, infatti questa sceneggiatura scritta da John Fusco rende il film, precedentemente annunciato come Epico/Azione, una “Commedia d’avventura per famiglie” con qualche scena d’azione, e NON SOLO:
i protagonisti non sono più Jackie Chan e Jet Li, che comunque interpreteranno parti importanti, cioè il Monaco Sha (Jackie Chan) e Monkey King/Lan Cai He (Jet Li), bensì un attore chiamato Michael Angarano che interpreterà la parte di un adolescente americano ossessionato dal kung fu, che tramite varie peripezie finisce in Cina e si unisce ad un gruppo di maestri di arti marziali per liberare Monkey King.
Non ci sono parole per commentare.

After the confirmation of the news written before (Director Rob Minkof - Plot changed – Jackie and Jet no more protagonists – American Production ), we – ARMANDO RUSSO e EMANUELE MASSETTI - ask the aid of all Jackie Chan - Jet Li - Oriental Cinema FANS, in order to stop this madness.
The Jackie and Jet movie must be a good movie, it could be the BEST ACTION MOVIE EVER MADE, it DESERVES the best director, production and action coreograph!
The choice of an American Production for this movie is one of the worst mistake ever done:
Chan and Li worked many times in America and they know how it works, how to do things, and how Americans can’t do the same kind of action movies. Perhaps only Tarantino or Bey Logan could respect such requirement because of their deep knowledge about this kind of cinema.
It’s incredible how a movie which could be “THE” movie, a must-see, is turning in a Bad Family Blockbuster Movie.
The film should be released in April 2008 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0865556/), so we FANS have little time to make the things change, to make THE DEFINITIVE ORIENTAL ACTION MOVIE BEING REALITY.

Alla luce dei fatti, visto il malcontento creato in migliaia di fan dopo le notizie confermate precedentemente riportate, e visto lo stupore causato dalla trama annunciata…trama che per molti anni è stata centro di controversie e dibattiti tra gli attori stessi perché non reputata all’altezza, mentre adesso viene accettata questa versione mediocrissima, non d’azione per giunta girata da una produzione Americana e dal suddetto regista Rober Minkof, noi – ARMANDO RUSSO ed EMANUELE MASSETTI – chiediamo l’aiuto di tutti i fan di Jackie Chan, Jet Li e del Cinema Orientale di fermare in tempo questa pazzia.
Il progetto dovrebbe essere trattato con i guanti offrendo a supporto di esso il migliore regista sulla piazza e il migliore coreografo, il tutto contornato da una trama solida e importante che renda credibile il tutto.
Tutto questo è stato proposto solo nella parte relativa alle coreografia con la presenza di Yuen Woo Ping, forse il miglior coreografo in circolazione e profondo conoscitore delle due star poiché ha contribuito a molti dei loro successi.
La scelta della produzione americana per un film di questo tipo è una delle cose più sbagliate, e sia Chan che Li sanno benissimo quante volte gli studios hanno contaminato malamente i loro modi di fare cinema e sicuramente anche questa occasione non sarà smentita visto le premesse: cattiva trama e inutile spiegamento di effetti visivi che non si addicono alla fisicità artistica dei due.
L’aria che si respira ad Hong Kong è ben diversa, solo essa può dare giustizia ad un film di tali proporzioni, è in quella cornice che i due attori sono cresciuti e affermati e solo lì possono celebrare questo unico evento.
FONDAMENTALE è la mano esperta di un buon regista hongkonghese: solo esso può dare e sapere dello spirito giusto del film. Forse di americano solamente Tarantino o Bey Logan potrebbero rispettare tali requisiti vista la loro profonda conoscenza del genere. Ma sicuramente non Rob Minkoff.
E’ incredibile come nonostante le produzioni cerchino di ricalcare le tendenze e le strategie commerciali non si diano da fare per un film che potrebbe avere un successo assicurato se fatto nel migliore dei modi sfumando così un’occasione unica.
Il film dovrebbe essere distribuito in Aprile del 2008 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0865556/) quindi abbiamo poco tempo affinché noi Fan facciamo sentire la nostra voce per far cambiare le cose, affinchè il progetto, che doveva essere IL FILM DI ARTI MARZIALI PER ECCELLENZA (mentre è diventato una qualunque film da blockbuster per famiglie) sia affidato alle mani di registi piu’ esperti del settore, anche di Chan e Li stessi, con una produzione orientale e che ne faccia il film di arti marziali del secolo come TUTTI si aspettano.
