I have been an Early Childhood Educator for over thirteen years and have seen how the focus on learning through play affects children. I have seen firsthand the skills children develop when they are given the freedom to play. When I
was a young teacher, I was guilty of making children at 4 years old sit and write their names or letters of the alphabet before they could go play. I wasn’t aware of the damage that I was doing.

I have since learned how important play is and that children can learn the skills I was trying to teach without being forced before they are ready developmentally.

I have also obtained articles by Sharon Krull an Early Childhood advocate and educator, the USDA, and the National Association of Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and research from Switzerland and other countries regarding play in Early Childhood Education, along with articles from other Early Childhood Instructors and Advocates.

We, the undersigned, call to the legislature of California and the United States to eliminate the "No Child Left Behind," and the pressures of academics in early childhood programs, and make it mandatory that all preschools teach children through play-based curriculum.
