The stranglehold of pornography has lasted long enough!
We are a group of concerned citizens who have witnessed how pornography damages individuals, families and communities.
We affirm the goodness of the human person, the human body and the marital act. We acknowledge that we are made in the image and likeness of God. We derive our dignity, value, and inherent beauty from our loving and forgiving God.
We reject every attempt to objectify the human person for the base pleasure and profit of others. We are made for love; not born for porn.
We the undersigned call on all Virginia elected officials to prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials.
We call for the vigilant enforcement of the Code of Virginia 18.1-228 which states:
'Every person who knowingly . . . publishes, sells, rents, lends, transports in interstate commerce, or distributes or exhibits any obscene item . . . shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.'
Obscene being defined in the previous section of the Code as:
'The word 'obscene' . . . shall mean that which considered as a whole has as its dominant theme or purpose an appeal to prurient interest, that is, a shameful or morbid interest in sex, nudity, or excretion, and if it goes substantially beyond customary limits of candor in description or representation of such matters.' Id. at 18.1-227.
If such local laws do not exist or do not sufficiently protect the community from pornography, we call on all officials to draft, approve, and implement such laws.
