DON’T LET THE MUSIC DIE AT BLU JAZ
We, the undersigned, are petitioning for Blu Jaz Pte Ltd to continue to have a Public Entertainment Licence to provide public entertainment at Blu Jaz Café
Blu Jaz Pte Ltd, a Public Entertainment Licence holder since 2006, has been notified by the Singapore Police Force that their Public Entertainment Licence will be cancelled with effect from 22 October 2018
The decision to cancel the licence is with respect to the following offences
Nov 2017 :2 offences of failure to ensure windows and doors remained closed
(i.e. a noise issue)
May 2018 : 2 offences of overcrowding by over 20% above the capacity
( the stipulated capacity in the licence is 73 pax over the total 2 floor area of 3200sf )
Blu Jaz Cafe, a home grown business is one of the last bastions of established home-grown jazz venues in Singapore . It is one of the most iconic and recognized places for the Jazz music scene in Singapore.
Blu Jaz Cafe hosts Comedy shows, Poetry Sessions, Jam Sessions, Open Mic , DJ nights providing a platform for local, budding and emerging talents. It is the ONLY place left for young musicians to hone their musical skills and perform in front of a live audience.
Blu Jaz Cafe has groomed numerous young talents and hosted a multitude of home grown acts, including comedian Fakkah Fuzz and song-writer Charlie Lim who sang this year’s National Day Parade theme song
This cancellation of the Public Entertainment Licence will deprive budding local talents of an established platform for them to continue to hone their skills and will impact the musician and artist community badly as well as all who love and support the musician and artist community in Singapore.
And if the cancellation leads to Blu Jaz Café closing their business, this will impact the larger Bali Lane and Haji Lane community. Blu Jaz commissioned and has been continuing to upkeep the wall murals in Haji Lane and Bali Lane which have successfully transformed Haji Lane and Bali Lane into a popular tourist destination.
Lastly, the cancellation of the Public Entertainment Licence for Blu Jaz Cafe over the cited offences stated above, seems to us , the undersigned, to be disproportionate . Blu Jaz Cafe, a home grown business , having continually served the musician and artist and the larger Kampong Gelam community for 13 years DESERVES YOUR SUPPORT .
