Following my say on why we must speak up for Lesotho youth I have received overwhelming views from disillusioned Basotho – at home and around the world – who are afraid like I am, that anger and hatred have become us, as the country rapidly becomes a failed state. Like me, they believe our democracy needs a reboot, and that this parliament must go home, sit down and catch its breath…
I, Nthakoana Ngatane, propose a REFERENDUM to determine how many citizens of Lesotho agree that parliament be suspended for 3 years while His Majesty King Letsie III and SADC lead reforms, economic recovery and reconciliation.
Should the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, their parties and national assembly fail to agree to an alternative solution before we collect enough signatures to motivate the Referendum, and should Basotho agree to that Referendum, then Chapter VI - Sections 54 to 84 of the Constitution that establish parliament must be suspended for the 3 years
We the Undersigned call on the Lesotho Independent Electoral Commission to hold a REFERENDUM to suspend parliament, and give King Letsie III constitutional powers to govern for a period of 3 years and lead Reforms, Economic Recovery and Reconcilitation.
