There is not enough time for cars in the North bound left turn lane on Colorado blvd to make a safe turn. This problem is especially dangerous during peak traffic hours. Due to a large amount of oncoming traffic from the south side of Colorado Blvd there is very little time for cars in the north bound left turning lane to turn.
Quite regularly cars pull into the intersection to make that left turn possible once the south bound traffic begins to slow down due to their yellow light. This leaves mere seconds to safely turn at this intersection. Leaving time for only the vehicle or vehicles that pulled into the intersection to turn. Quite often the cars in the left lane north bound will risk running the light just to get through it.
This morning 3/13/15 there was a significant car accident at this intersection due to this problem. A male pedestrian was seriously injured Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle. There is a bus stop at MLK jr. and Colorado Blvd on the left side right near the intersection. This area is very busy with commuters during peak traffic hours. This problem leaves pedestrians and occupants in motor vehicles at risk for injury.
We the undersigned, call on Denver Traffic control (Ms. Fadia Sawed engineer assigned to making the decision to place a turn light at this intersection) to Place a left turn arrow at the intersection of MLK Jr. and Colorado Blvd North bound.
This action will make it safer for pedestrians and occupants of motor vehicles converging at this location.
