Kenya Power reported losses amounting to Ksh 0.94 billion for FY 2020 due to system inefficiency and power surge across the country.
Since 2013, Kenya Power unsuccessfully addressed the outcry from the business community concerning frequent blackouts in Busia County. They switched the source of power from lesos near Eldoret to Rang'ala power station which serves Siaya, Bondo and Busia county. But after connecting Busia to Rang'ala the problem persists and requires a permanent solution,
Failure to address the frequent power blackouts has a direct contribution to high unemployment and poverty rates across the County. The ultimate solution to these frequent blackouts considering the increasing demand for electricity in the county lies with Kenya Power setting up a power station in Busia County.
Why set up a power station in Busia county?
KNCCC which advocate for a favourable commercial, trade and investment environment recently opened the Busia Chapter. The ongoing upgrade of the road network from Busia to Kisumu and the establishment of the Busia Jumuia Cross-Border integrated market a partnership between Trade Mark East Africa, Kenya Highway Authority (KenHA) and Busia County government provides opportunities to investors when completed.
We, the undersigned, call on Kenya Power to urgently address the outcry from the investors and residents concerning frequent blackouts in Busia County. The ultimate solution to these frequent blackouts is to set up a power station in Busia County.
