Well, my last petition was taken down due to someone reporting it. Our petition had more signatures than the other had it not been for it being taken down. So thank you for the signatures, all 665. Lets take another stab at it.

The Indian Mascot represents much more than a mascot, it represents bravery, strength, determination, and leadership. For many schools, it represents the heritage of that area, and that should never be taken away. The only peoplewho find this racist, are racist themselves. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, don't be afraid to share it.

For years, this debate has been a topic of controversy. Many schools have used the Indian as a mascot, and even football teams. A school needs a mascot representing the true spirit of teamwork, and confidence, and in my opinion, the Indian is a perfect match. As being a descendant of one of the Great North American Indian Tribes, I find this mascot, a tribute, honoring the many people of this land.

In a society where we strive for unity and friendship, we have focused too much on finding the differences that divide us.

We aren't the only people with an opinion about the Mascot.

We the supporters of keeping the Onteora Indian mascot, call to the BOE to not change our spirit of the district.
