Proposed legislation in the Virgina Legislature recommends limiting the time for the family to appeal their child's psychiatric placement to 10 days. Formerly this was 30 days. There are two identical bills up for consideration: SB 65 and HB 248 Psychiatric
Treatment, Revises Pychiatric Treatment of Minors Act.
The shorter appeal time would not be long enough for the family to gather resources to appeal or to see if their child's psychotropic medication is working.
We, the undersigned, oppose changing the time for appeals of a minor's psychiatric placement to ten days.
Please leave the appeals time at 30 days.
