Professor Amish Khalfan graduated Hunter College's Graduate School as a physicist and has been a professor at Hunter College since Summer of 2008. He is an outstanding instructor who absolutely, without hesitation, loves his job and the students he teaches. He is on the verge of getting laid off by the Physics dept. unless the Student Body doesn't act to keep him here.
He is young and has a nascent passion for the subject that is unique. I had the opportunity of taking Professor Khalfan in the summer for Physics 120 and was one of many recipients of his brilliant workshops for Physics 110 in Spring 2008.
He puts a lot of time and effort into his explanations and illustrations of abstract concepts in both Physics 110 and Physics 120. I recall him staying 3-4 extra hours virtually each week to hold office hours. In addition, he took time to illustrate how physics actually works through modular demonstrations. He did this so that his students would comprehend the subject matter in a visual way to explain formulas that are usually subject to memorization.
Professors who encourage learning and participation should not be undermined, but rather seen as a piece to the puzzle to our broken education system.
To Dr. Chen and Physics Dept: We the undersigned would like to petition so that you will consider keeping Professor Amish Khalfan. His presence at Hunter College would glorify the Physics Dept. and propel students to enjoy the world of Physics. He attended Hunter College and wants to give back his outstanding knowledge back to its students and to do we ask you to Please reconsider keeping Professor Amish Khalfan in Hunter College.
