On June 17, Shantel Aria Wright, my cousin, was found in Little London, Westmoreland, in a canefield. She had been reported missing only a couple days before after going for a drive home with a local officer.
After initial sightings of the scene, the police force at the Savanna-La-Mar police station, where Shantel was part of the administrative staff, which was 3 minutes away, took 3 HOURS to respond to the crime scene.
Found at the scene was an officer's belt, which led to suspicions regarding the officer she was last seen with. INDECOM started an investigation into this officer, however, this officer has been allowed to stay on active duty during the investigation.
This is an insult to Shantel and her family. Especially moreso that it involves the same police station where she worked and was found 3 minutes away from.
Shantel and her family deserve justice. We are asking you to add your voice so that the investigation can be transparent, the police can be removed from active duty, security cameras can be checked, and so that additional branches can help and become involved. We want testing on the objects found at the scene, and we want Shanti's case be put on high priority.
