Two police officers in Johannesburg, South Africa, have now had criminal charges laid against them for what can only be seen as doing the job they are expected to do. While on patrol they pulled over a suspicious car travelling at 150km/h, which is over the legal speed limit. Unfortunately for them the occupant was the ex wife of former President Nelson Mandela. The officers were berated by her bodyguards and sworn at, being asked "Who the hell do you think you are".
Both officers were told that if they apologised to Ms Mandela all charges would be dropped. The police bosses are now denying this and criminal charges have been laid.
We, the undersigned, call on the National Chief of Police to please step in and take cognisance of the duty the two officers were trying to perform.
We petition to remove any and all political interference in the duty of our police officers and to re-instate these two officers and to also demand an apology from Ms Mandela.
