I have written a letter to both the Minister of Health and the Premier to request infrastructure funding to address the outdated/inefficient heating and cooling system at Hillside Pines Home for Special Care in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada. Thermostats are shared between 2 rooms leaving the ones without unable to adjust.the temperature. My mother is 91 years old. She lives in a room without a thermostat and the temperature in her room has been between 69 and 70 degrees on some of our coldest days. In order to get her room temp. to even that level, the air exchanger was disabled meaning her window has to be open at least sometime during the day. She is experiencing headaches, eyesight issues, extreme weakness and fatigue and increasing panic attacks. My mother along with other elderly residents are often seen wrapped in heated blankets due to the cold. In the summer months, the issue is the reverse. My mother along with others able to verbalize think that no one cares because they are old and my mother is very sad to think that "she has ended her days like this" ... "it is so very cruel". I agree and that is why I want to petition the government to do the right thing.

We, the undersigned call on the Minister of Health and Wellness, The Honorable Leo A. Glavine and the Premier of Nova Scotia, The Honorable Stephen MacNeil to provide infrastructure funding to Hillside Pines Home for Special Care ln Bridgewater, Nova Scotia in order to address an outdated and inefficient heating and cooling system that is seriously impacting the quality of life of its residents.
