How often have you been in a branch of M&S and been unable to find a member of staff to help you ? The problem lies not with the rank and file employees themselves but with the fact that all of the M&S stores are so grossly understaffed.
This is unfair to the customer and equally unfair to the underpaid, overworked staff.
I believe the Marks and Spencer Board should take a more professional approach to the staffing of their branches and not put profit margin and their own salary increases and bonus pools before customer service and employee welfare.
The numbers of shop floor staff must be increased forthwith to a level that will attain and sustain customer satisfaction, to a level that will remove the current stressful conditions under which the rank and file employees work.
