West Virginia University has grown to become a national player in football thanks to the genius that is Coach Rich Rodriguez. Every year we seem to hear rumors that Coach Rodriguez is the leading candidate for an open coaching position at other schools.
Coach Rodriguez has said that this is his "dream job" and wants to remain here for as long as possible. However, Coach Rodriguez needs the support of the Athletic Department and West Virginia fans everywhere. There are several issues that Coach Rod wants addressed to keep us competitive on a national scale. Mostly Coach Rodriguez wants more money allocated to his assistant coaches to keep their pay levels at or around the national average.
Currently they are well under-paid for the excellent job performance. Also there are several athletic facilities that Coach Rod would like to see funded to keep us at the forefront of the recruiting process. It's simple, big time recruits go places that they see are dedicated to that particular athletic event, so by funding the football program, to the extent Coach Rod desires, we in turn should draw more interest from higher caliber recruits. This also causes a ripple effect that not only determines the level of success the football team will attain, but as well as the general economic prosperity of the university itself.
It would be naive to believe that anything other than collegiate sports influence student attendance. Improved collegiate sports bring in more students and therefore brings in more money to the university and the local economy. The pride of the state itself is also at stake.
Coach Rod is an investment West Virginia University cannot afford to lose.
We, the undersigned, call on the Athletic Department and administration of West Virginia University to allocate more financial support to the West Virginia University football program and Head Coach Rich Rodriguez.
We understand this may result in a slight increase in prices. However we are united towards attaining the best facilities and coaches to further the growth of the football program.
