History - On November 3rd 2007 my Sisters 23 year old daughter was shot in the back at point blank range and killed. Her killer was heavily intoxicated. In the state of Louisiana there is no specific law in place for such a horrendous act.
There are laws against intoxication and motor vehicles, but none against deadly weapons and intoxication.
My daughter, Kasey Michelle Bernard, was a beautiful young mother with a 16 month old son. We must ask the State of Louisiana to make this a felonious crime and that killers be punished severely.
Petition - We, the People of Louisiana, call on the State to criminalize the use/handling of a deadly weapon or kill/injure any individual with such a weapon while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
We deem that any such person who does so should be charged with felonious negligence and shall be tried by a jury of his or her peers.
