Since August 2011, Colac has had only ONE Ambulance, this Ambulance is being used by Colac Area Health for Non Urgent Patient transfer leaving Colac with NO Ambulance for extended periods of time!
Now the Colac Area Health Urgent Department intends to close between 10pm and 7am each day, another cost cutting exercise!
THE CLOSURE OF THE CAH [COLAC HOSPITAL] URGENT CARE DEPARTMENT WILL PUT A GREATER BURDEN ON AN ALREADY UNDER RECOURCED AMBULANCE SERVICE COLAC HAVING ONLY ONE AMBULANCE AND AS A RESULT: PEOPLE WILL DIE!
WE THE UNDERSIGNED:
Call upon the Australian Federal Government and the Victorian State Government to impliment the required funding as to prevent the closure of the Colac Urgent Care Department between the hours of 10pm and 7am.
We call upon the Victorian Health Minister, Mr. David Davis and Ambulance Victoria to provide the Colac Ambulance Station with the required staff as to permit TWO Ambulances to be available in the Colac Catchment area 24/7.
The TWO Colac Ambulances are NOT to be used for inter Hospital transfer and are NOT to be used outside the Colac catchment area unless under a code one [lights and sirens] situation.
