For as long as I can remember, the American Flag in the infield has been unlit.
As per The Flag Code Title 4.6a, it is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open.
However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
Lighting the flag will have no effect in spectator view of action nor hinder speedway operations.
Aside from being codification of existing rules and customs pertaining to the display and use of the flag of the United States of America, its just the right thing for the speedway to do, even if it's only a solar light that illuminates the flag at night during speedway operating hours.
We, the undersigned below, demand Williams Grove Speedway in Mecahincsburg Pa begin immediate action to correct this situation.
