We, the undersigned, petition the Illinois Government, Illinois Board of Education and all Illinois Schools Districts and School District Leadership, to take governance on this initiative.
We ask that you speak for the many students, parents, mentors and educators across this province who want to see Intellectual Competition (i.e. Robotics and STEM activities) recognized as a Sport across the state of Illinois, allowing students, parents, mentors, educators and administrators the ability to add new opportunities for students in schools.
Students across the state of Illinois should have an equal opportunity in participating in Intellectual Sports (Sports for the Mind i.e. Robotics) annually or year round. Students across the state of Illinois, regardless of demographic and educational institutional leadership should have the opportunity to engage in any sort of intellectual sport as does an athletic member of a sports team.
Therefore, an Educator of that said team should have the same ability to create, maintain and develop students through intellectual programs as a coach would of any sports program.
Instituting this initiative will give students new pathways and establishes higher educational goals through collaborative competition, create an emotional connection toward learning and give educators and administrators the resources to create teams or clubs to do so.
Allowing the recognition of such activities will create programs to engage students and motivate them into higher levels of education and/or expose them to traditional and newly established professions in industry.
