AP US History is already a difficult enough class. I would challenge you to find more than 10 people in both classes that have an A, despite the high intelligence of all of these individuals. With that being said, a major part of this deficit is the enormous workload of the class. With a weekly reading quiz, and period tests every few weeks to study for, as well as daily work and multiple essays, ID's are an unnecessary burden on these students. Not to mention the increasing number of words, with the same amount of time to complete the assignment. When in class every day, we are learning the material that is then just repeated within the ID's. While the reasoning may be that we are imprinting the information in our brains, it is clearly not working, as is evident in students' grades.
We, the undersigned, call on Kelly Dunbar and Mary Henthorn to eliminate the issuing of the Period ID assignment to the AP US History students after the Period 5 ID's have been completed and turned in.
