Heritage Elementary, the new school in Grimes, Iowa, needs a crossing guard, to help parents and students safely cross NE Beaverbrooke Drive, using the crosswalk that leads directly to the school entrance.

NE Beaverbrooke Drive and its neighborhoods are still being developed, with dozens of new homes (and families) and businesses coming. Construction vehicles and commuters using NE Beaverbrooke as nothing more than a thoroughfare between 141 and James Street make crossing the street less than safe. While there is an underground passage, which is prone to flooding and snowdrift, a crossing guard would be able to help direct traffic and pedestrians safely and efficiently any time of the year.

In 2015, Stanley Consultants did a traffic impact study for the new Heritage at Grimes development (this has been presented to the school board). They recommended the school have a crossing guard at 3 intersections - we are asking for one, even though the actual traffic impact has been greater than estimated.

We, the undersigned, are asking for a crossing guard to help the students and parents of Heritage Elementary (Grimes, IA) get to and from school safely.
