As association members, it is our responsibility to demand accountability from BMHA. The best time to do this is at the Annual General Meeting. We can't expect changes to happen if we don't make our voices heard. Here are some changes we would like to see implemented at BMHA:
BUDGET
A more detailed budget template for managers to use should be implemented.
Enforcement of parents signing off on the budget at the beginning of the season. Better to negotiate and settle issues right from the beginning.
A cap on team budgets or so called "Cushions". Sometimes things can happen where extra expenditures may be needed that were not foreseen. For this, many teams add in a cushion. We believe this cushion should be capped at no more then $2500 per team.
The organizations Treasurer should not hold any other position in the organization including coach, manager and bookkeeper.
TRANSPARENCY
Minutes of the AGM and all board meetings throughout the year should be electronically published on the BMHA website. Numerous minor hockey associations including but not limited to Uxbridge, Brantford, Lincoln, Grimsby, Kawartha, etc. post their AGM and monthly minutes on their we site.
Since BMHA tracks proxies given out for the AGM, that list should be made available to any member that requests to view it.
DISCIPLINARY PROCESS
A BMHA code of conduct should be implemented
A dispute resolution mechanism similar to AJAX's 3 level process should be implemented in Belleville.
