Hands off our Green Belt - Refuse Wallington Nurseries Development
- Target:
- Sutton Council
- Region:
- United Kingdom
- Website:
- planningregister.sutton.gov.uk
THe Green Party are working cross party to campaign against the proposed development of Wallington Nurseries . This has been submitted by a land promoter to resell the land at an inflated price. This is not good for local residents or our Green Belt. We are asking Wallington locals to sign this e-petition opposing the planning application. And raise concerns on Sutton Gov Planning site www.planningregister.sutton.gov.uk REF: DM2026/00448
I strongly object to this planning application for the following key reasons:
1. Building on protected Green Belt
This site is in the Green Belt, which is meant to stay open and undeveloped.
Building 103 homes here would cause clear harm to open countryside and set a dangerous precedent.
The proposal does not meet the strict rules that allow development in the Green Belt, and no exceptional justification has been proven.
2. Loss of countryside and local character
The site is currently open land and part of the rural edge of Wallington.
A large housing estate would permanently change the character of the area from countryside to suburb.
The development would be visually intrusive and harm the appearance of the landscape.
3. Poor location and car dependency
The site has very limited public transport and is far from shops and services.
Most journeys would require a car, making it an unsustainable location for housing.
4. Increased traffic and safety concerns
Over 100 new homes would mean significant extra traffic on Woodmansterne Lane.
This road is already narrow and unsafe in places, so this would worsen congestion and road safety risks.
5. Pressure on local services
There is no clear plan for how schools, healthcare, and local infrastructure will be able to service new residents in this location.
This development risks overloading already stretched services.
6. Harm to wildlife and green space
The site supports local wildlife and green habitats.
Development would mean loss of habitat and increased disturbance.
This proposal would cause serious and lasting harm to the Green Belt, local character, and community, and the benefits do not outweigh these impacts.
I urge the Council to refuse this application.
