#Create National Holiday
Target:
United States Congress
Region:
United States of America

How did the Pony Express operate? How often was mail delivered? Was it reliable and therefore, taken for granted? Was weather a factor in the delivery of mail? Did it charge for its services? Was any element of danger involved in the performance of the riders' duties? Were the riders paid adequately? These issues may come to mind, when the Pony Express is considered.

Of these questions, how many can be said to apply to the United States Postal Service of the present? All of them.

Regardless of our reason, we tend to celebrate Federal Holidays with zeal. To some, the holiday at hand is meaningful, even personal. To others, working a Federal Holiday may signify a sizeable monetary reward. Then, there are those who regard a Federal holiday, as a well-earned day off. Even children, see them as another fun day off from school

Yes, Federal Holidays are only as important as we interpret them.

Whether or not an official declaration citing a national day of observance honoring the workers comprising the United States Postal Service, we can be certain they will tirelessly continue all efforts to successfully serve the citizens of our country. All toll, there were 508,908 career employees in the U.S.P.S. based of the Fiscal year of 2016. As of 09/30/2016, non-career employees totaled 130.881. This proposal should have been presented to our legislators long ago. Surprisingly, it has not. Please remember the more than one half million men and women who so consistently and faithfully deal with our primary need of communication, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by endorsing this petition.
