Denver Public Schools has committed to getting a new Visual Arts teacher for Denver School of the Arts.

The requirements for this teacher are unique enough, and the window for hiring someone qualified is narrow enough that we, the concerned parents, request that the search for a qualified teacher be a national search.

Re: Potential FTE, VA Position, DSA
From: VA Parents Signing This Letter

We the parents/guardians of the visual arts majors at The Denver School of the Arts would like to make the following known in regards to any possible search for one of the two FTE positions in our department.

The needs of this specialized and unique program go beyond the normal DPS art teaching positions and we are advocating for an autonomous search. The person needed to make this program successful must possess the highest possible artistic knowledge as well as teaching skills and administrative skills necessary to “jump start” this program from the set backs of this past year. The teacher for this position must earn, not demand, our students respect and be a role model that our students can aspire to. Such a teacher also needs to be a good compliment and team player with our present faculty, Deb Rosenbaum.

Due to the events of this past semester and the effects on our program and our students, we request this recommendation be in place at the very first stages of actively opening a search. This is a departure from the normal protocol for the average DPS position.

We realize such a search is not presently underway. It is simply important for our concerns to be known at this time due to the immediacy and deadlines should such a search begin.

Respectfully submitted,
