The hyde park central school district phone policy allows any staff member to take away a cell phone or electronic device if they see it. The reason they gave for making this policy was that cell phones got in the way of school work, but that wasn't the actual reason.
The actual reason was they didn't want students to notify their parents if something happened at school that would concern the parents. This policy also allows the students to be able to sue the school district because of the fact that when they take away a cell phone the phone gets brought down to the main lobby and placed on a table that has no one around to watch the phones, as well as that they also don't check your student id to prove that you are the rightful owner of the phone meaning that it is very easy for the cell phone to get stolen.
This cell phone policy must be stopped completely and the school district must be held responsible for any damage they have caused.
