During summer AAU basketball season for gateway high school, the girls along with their coaches supervision were conducting a fundraiser to raise money to participate in basketball tournaments for the summer season.
The team was divided into two separate groups along two intersections on Hunters Creek. Both groups were supervised under an adult coach (Head coach Kelly & JV coach Colon). Both groups were standing along side the road on the side walk waving signs that stated "Gateway's Girls Basketball Team, Please donate!," asking for donations for their team and at red lights ONLY did the girls on the team enter the streets to collect these donations. The principal at Gateway claimed that he was receiving phone calls and pictures of the basketball team in the middle of the street "soliciting." As a result, Mr. Meadows removed Coach Kelly as head coach for the Girls Varsity Team roughly a month before season has started.
Coach Kelley is a responsible, effective, caring and hard working coach. He's helped all of the girls on the basketball team, not only varsity, academically and athletically. He's very important to our team and we would appreciate if you would help us be our head coach again. Thank you.
