Said Mughanli, Iranian Azerbaijani poet, journalist and editor of Yashmaq Literary Magazine, was arrested on 8 June, 2011. He is at risk of torture or ill-treatment and his whereabouts have not been known yet.

8 Iranian Security Forces detained Said Mughanli at his father's house in Mughan, Iranian Azerbaijan.

Said Mughanli has been arrested several times in connection with his cultural activity.

The Association for the Defense of Azerbaijani Political Prisoners, ADAPP, believes that, Mr. Mughanli is a prisoner of conscience, held solely for the peaceful civil, cultural and language rights activities.

1) We call on the Iranian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Said Mughanli, as he is a prisoner of conscience, held solely for his defense of the right of the Azerbaijani people in Iran to use their own language.

2) We demand for Said Mughanli to receive urgently needed medical care for the torture wounds inflicted by prison authorities.

3) Reminding the authorities that, as a state party to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Iran is obliged to uphold the right to freedom of expression and that linguistic minorities have the right to use their own language.

The Free Said Mughanli petition to UN, Navi Pillay, Ban Ki Moon, IR Embassies, Amnesty, HRW, EU members was written by ADAPP and is in the category Human Rights at GoPetition.
