On 6th December 2011 Emma West was remanded in custody for an alleged public order offence which took place on a tram from Croydon to Wimbledon.
Emma simply expressed an opinion regarding multiculturalism in the UK and as a result will be spending Christmas in prison whilst her children are taken into care.
To incarcerate someone simply for expressing an opinion is not acceptable in a democratic society and as such is the first step on the road to totalitarianism. Therefore she should be released immediately.
****STOP PRESS**** On Tuesday 13th December Emma West was released on bail. This represents a great victory for common sense over the forces of left-wing totalitarianism. Many thanks to everyone who signed this petition, I know we didn't get anywhere near 100000 but I still think it made a difference. I was particularly surprised to see how many people from other countries such as the USA and Australia signed this, the world is certainly watching what goes on here. Thank you all once again!!!
To Prime Minister David Cameron/Home Secretary Teresa May,
We, the undersigned, call upon you to release Emma West from prison immediately.
However offensive her opinions may have been to others during her well-documented confrontation with other passengers on the Croydon-Wimbledon tram they were nevertheless only her opinions and a truly free and decent society cannot lock people up for simply having an opinion.
This is the first step on the road to totalitarianism and is wholly unacceptable.
