On May 11, Iranian Baha'i-faith citizens Elham Farahani and her son Shamim Naeimi were arrested by regime security forces and taken to the notorious Evin prison to begin serving prison terms which were imposed for their peaceful practice of their Baha'i faith.

Elham Farahani is sentenced to four years of imprisonment, and her Shamim Naeimi is sentenced to three years. Other members of the family, including Elham's husband--and Shamim's father--Adel Naimi (seen in photo with wife and son) have also faced imprisonment and other forms of persecution in the past.

WHEREAS: Both Elham Farahani and her son Shamim Naeimi are prisoners of conscience who have been imprisoned solely for the peaceful practice of their Baha'i faith;

AND WHEREAS: Both the sentences passed against them and their continued imprisonment are thus both ILLEGAL under Articles 18 and 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (to which Iran is a signatory) as well as Article 24 of the Iranian Constitution;

THEREFORE: We, the undersigned, demand that the international community at ALL levels bring ALL possible pressure to bear upon the Islamic Republic of Iran to IMMEDIATELY and UNCONDTIONALLY release both Elham Farahani and Shamim Naeimi, reverse the illegal sentences imposed upon them and drop the equally illegal charges brought against them.
