Collective testimony of political prisoners about Ahmad Daneshpour

HRANA 18th January, 2014

HRANA News Agency – In a letter, a group of political prisoners in the ward 350 of Evin prison expressed their concerns around the health situation of Ahmad Daneshpour-Moghadam in this prison.

According to HRANA reporters, the news organization of human rights activists in Iran, the political prison, Ahmad Daneshpour, fell unconscious following the deterioration of his health and seriously injured his chin.

The following is the full text letter that has been submitted to HRANA:

“Ahmad Daneshpour-Moghadam is one of our fellow prisoners who is suffering from a devastating disorder named ulcerative colitis, and his health condition has dramatically deteriorated over the last four years due to the negligence of the prison officials. At least during the second half of the 2013, the authorities and public have been warned about the health conditions and problems prisoners are facing in the warn #350 a number of time. This included health conditions of Ahmad Daneshpour-Moghadam. Those who remember him when he entered the jail understand how much he has changed and his health has been deteriorated even compared to a couple of months ago. A weight loss of over 80 pounds during one year is a supporting factor to this claim. The physicians inside the prison, the prison clinic, or hospitals where Ahmad has been accepted confirm that he is suffering from ulcerative colitis, which is a devastating disorder affecting his gastrointestinal system. On the other hand, medications used to treat the UC cause loss of appetite, which could be partly blamed on the significantly low quality of food in the prison as well. These factors have led to stomach bleeding, constipation, and intensive hemorrhoid in Ahmad.

These conditions and resulting stress have caused dramatic deterioration of his nervous system and sleeping cycle. In a recent incident, he fell off and injured his chin because of dramatic loss of balance. After transferring to Tajrish-Shohada hospital, despite his critical health condition he was dismissed from the hospital due to complicated and tight regulations around accepting and treating political prisoners. We, the following fellow prisoners of Ahmad Daneshpour-Moghadam, sign this letter and attest his critical health condition that may lead to his death. We urge the authorities to pay attention to Ahmad’s serious health condition and provide him appropriate medical treatment.

UPDATE Hrana 31st July, 2013

Ahmad Daneshpour Moghadam is in critical condition

HRANA News Agency – The doctors of ward 350 of Evin prison have warned about the health condition of Ahmad Daneshpour Moghadam who has been arrested in the demonstrations in 2009.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), a number of the doctors have written a letter to the clinic authorities in Evin prison warning them about the critical health condition of the political prisoner, Mohsen Daneshpour Moghadam, after losing one third of his weight and internal bleeding.

The doctors have written: “Mr. Daneshpour is suffering from bleeding from rectum and the recognition of ulcerative and trying to cure it with pills had no use. This has caused him lose 30 kg of 90 kg weight he had before.”

The letter insists on stress and anxiety as the reason of his diseases. Being 4 years under the death sentence in ward 350 and having his mother and wife under arrest in women ward has put him under a huge stress.

The doctors who have signed this letter are asking for the serious and urgent action of attorney and prison authorities regarding their legal, moral and humanitarian responsibilities.

Ahmad Daneshpour Moghadam, his father Mohsen Daneshpour Moghadam, his mother Motahhare Bahrami and his wife Reyhane Haj Ebrahim Dabbagh have been arrested and transferred to ward 209 of Evin prison on December 27, 2009.

18 days after, Keyhan newspaper wrote that all 4 of those who have been arrested in the demonstrations yesterday will be hanged.

Although 5 months later, the appeal court reduced the verdicts of Motahhare Bahrami to 10 years and Reyhane Haj Ebrahim Dabbagh to 15 years the father and the son are still in the prison without receiving any exact sentence.

Ahmad Daneshpour has been rejected for furlough in spite of a deteriorating health condition.

HRANA 26 FEBRUARY 2013

Ahmad Daneshpour Moghadam, political prisoner sentenced to death is being rejected for medical leave by prison’s authorities, in spite of deteriorating health condition.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Ahmad Daneshpour Moghadam, political prisoner sentenced to death who is imprisoned at Ward 350 of Evin Prison is suffering from Colon bleeding, his health condition is critical and prison authorities deny his furlough request.

Ahmad Daneshpour and his father Mohsen Daneshpour have had their death sentences upheld by the Appeal Court on 15th May 2010. This was done after an unfair trial, where weak evidence was presented.

Mohsen and Ahmad were arrested with Ahmad's mother after the Ashura protests. They did not receive independent legal representation, nor were their family members allowed to visit them during their prosecution. Their family did not even receive notification of the Court Hearing OR death sentence.

They are charged with "deliberate cooperation with MKO," "gathering and colluding against national security," and "propaganda against the regime and in the interest of enemies." The evidence supporting these charges included a trip by the parents to Iraq to visit another son, who is a member of MKO, sending videos and pictures to MKO, and participating in demonstrations. None of these charges are either reasonable or punishable by death.

Renowned Human Rights Lawyer Mohammad Sharif, who has been able to successfully defend others sentenced to death under such circumstances, was not able to defend Mohsen's and Ahmad's cases as they were sent to the Appeals Court before he was allowed to prepare them.

Human Rights sources such as International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran strongly condemns the issuance of disproportiate sentences like Mohsen's and Ahmad's which are based on unfounded charges and result in executions.

The barbaric violations of human rights by the Iranian regime have resulted in the devastation of another whole family with these death sentences.
