During the recent mandatory evacuation of Glynn County and the city of Brunswick Georgia in anticipation of Hurricane Matthew, local radio stations went off the air. A local talk radio host and member of the news media named Scott Ryfun took it upon himself to remain in the path of the storm. He did this in service to the citizens of this community and continued to stream live updates via social media.
During the storm's aftermath, Mr. Ryfun continued to serve as the best conduit between our local government and citizens, including those displaced hundreds of miles during their evacuation. Other media outlets appeared to all but abandon our area. Mr. Ryfun remained, ever stalwart in his responsibility to not only his regular listeners but to those who sought any sign of hope as well. He truly was the voice of the Golden Isles.
With my signature, I call for the Nathan Deal, the Honorable Governor of the State of Georgia, to publicly recognize Scott Ryfun for his dedication and service to the citizens of the Golden Isles, Glynn County, and the City of Brunswick Georgia.
Mr. Ryfun's recent actions directly contributed to the safe evacuation of our county. He provided ongoing updates during the storm. In it's wake, Mr. Ryfun continued to serve the local community by providing direct information from local and state representatives, thereby increasing the safety and awareness of all those returning to their homes.
His service was exemplary and I request that Governor Deal recognize Mr. Ryfun's dedication to his profession and community with an award and ceremony commensurate with such actions.
