School dress codes have been in existence nearly as long as public education. Schools place limits on the clothing students can wear to school to prevent student involvement in gangs, disruption of education, and peer pressure. However, the state of South Carolina has recently passed a bill that will, as of the 2017-2018 school year, introduce a mandatory state-wide dress code for public schools.

We the undersigned, appeal to the South Carolina state legislature to expunge the bill introducing a state-wide mandatory dress code in public schools. We request individuality in the land of freedom. We ask for freedom of expression as students, and to not become clones. We ask for the allowance of creativity in our education. Join us and end the uniformity we so deeply despise.
