FM Parents for Full Day Kindergarten

We are a coalition of parents, grandparents, educators, community leaders, and advocates working to bring equity and fairness to all Fayetteville Manlius elementary schools.

Students at Fayetteville Elementary, Enders Road Elementary, and Mott Road Elementary schools with half-day kindergarten are disadvantaged.

It is time to provide fairness to all FM students through equitable early education practices.

Children and teachers need the time full-day kindergarten provides to learn the foundational concepts and skills, and to acquire the knowledge in the kindergarten curriculum.

• In full-day kindergarten classrooms, teachers have more time to assess students and use this information to develop lessons that meet students individual learning needs.

• With twice the time for instruction, reading and writing development is often accelerated because teachers use the additional time to provide a more comprehensive and balanced language arts program.

• Mathematics, science, and social studies concepts are similarly accelerated with the opportunity to provide integrated and meaningful learning experiences.

• As a result of the increased learning time, kindergarten children are more ready to achieve in first grade.

• Schools that do not have full-day kindergarten will not receive these benefits.

We hope that the Board of Education can see all the benefits of a Full Day Kindergarten for our children.
