Danny Ainge became Director of Basketball Operations of the Celtics, April 2003. Many Celtics fan like the author of this petition were happy to see him get the job, because we were fans of him as a player for the Celtics.
Our feelings about Danny Ainge as a player have to be separate as those as GM. Helping the Celt's win NBA championships in 1984 & 1986 we thank you for.
Taking over a team which went to the Eastern Conference Finals and pushed the NJ Nets to six game, and then changing 11 out of 12 roster spots. Has the team gotten better or worse? Obviously Worse.
All of the Celtics trades are now revolving around dumping contracts not bringing in talent.
Most recently We had the #5 pick in the nation, D-West (who you called the "steal of the 2005 draft"), packaged with Wally Szerbiak, a good shooter, who doesn't played defense and has a contract close to maximum salary......in return we got from Seattle, Ray Allen a great shooter, who won't defend as well because of double ankle surgeries, and yes he has a huge contract like Wally, and Seattle also gave up the #32 pick.
Granted Allen will probably have a better 2008 season then Wally. But giving up West and the #5 to get him is really mortgaging the future of the team.
* The Telfair Trade--- The Worst Trade in NBA History!!!!
The pick that got Portland Brandon Roy (Rookie of the Year) got to Portland through this deal. Celts got rid of Lefrentz's contract ( we got from Toine-Deal I) plus the #7 pick, we got back Theo Ratliffs contract, and Sebastian Telfair who was the C's 5th guard at one point last season. Telfair may have made NBA history last year....As the C's starting point guard he had 2 assists in his first two games. Has their been another starting point guard, barring injury who had only 2 total assists in his first two games with his new team, or over 2 games period?
Ricky Davis trade, Ricky D was one the most popular and exciting players on the team.....your first Ricky D trade was good.....bring him to Boston. The second one....designed to get rid of Blount's contract ( would any other GM give Mark Blount a six year deal?) did not help the Celtic's. It got us Szerbiak, whose contract, was so bad you need to throw in D-West and #5 pick to get the deal done.
Toine Trade I...it got us Lafrentz's contract.....
To The Board of Directors of The Boston Celtics,
If you want to win your first championship since 1986.... please terminate Danny Ainge's contract immediately.
