Filibusters were once a rare occurrence in the Senate. Only about six or seven times a session did senators have to file cloture votes to overcome them. But in recent years, that number has gone as high as 112.
To the members of the Senate:
The filibuster rule has been abused in recent years.
The business of the American people must move forward and cannot be held hostage by these outdated rules.
The Constitution gives you, the members of the Senate, the ability to change the rules of your procedure by a majority vote on the first day of a new session. I’m calling on you today to reform the filibuster rule using the Constitutional Option.
