Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice struck his fiancee/wife rendering her unconscious. Both were arrested for simple assault. Videos on the internet obtained and posted online by TMZ on Wednesday shows Rice lifting the woman by her arms out of an elevator at the Revel Casino.
Though apologies were given by Mr. Rice there is no excuse for the NFL to come down with a relative slap on the wrist. Being given a 2 game suspension is the equivalent of to many intentional hits to the head or stomping on a players arm in a game.
Stronger punishments are given for 2 DUIs, Bountys, altercations with bodyguards, and substance abuse. As brother, husband, uncle, and father - I completely reject this out of hand from the sport I love.
Send a strong message to the NFL, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and NFL V.P. Adolpho Birch that we won't stand for the lenient punishment for a player that was publicly caught assaulting his wife.
