#Inshore Fishing
Target:
Environmental Agency Gibraltar
Region:
Gibraltar

Gibraltar Environmental Agency have prohibited fishing from beaches from 15th April to 15th October.

This leaves 400 local fishermen with practically 'one' spot to fish from in the whole coastline for literally 6 months a year - namely Rosia Swimming Club (a.k.a. 'El Rolli').

This petition is to appeal for an extended period up to the 30th May since practically no local residents go swimming before June. We'd also suggest the prohibited period is shortened to the 15th September instead of the 15th October.

Another alternative is to redefine what is regarded as a 'beach' and to extend this leniency to the following areas up to the 30th May:
-The wall off little bay and the cemented area to the far left of little bay beach is not used by swimmers even throughout the summer period.
-The cemented area to the far left of Camp Bay where the slopes begin
-The groins at the local beaches are also alternatives and well away from the sandy parts of the beaches used by swimmers.

We, the undersigned, call on the Environmental Department to review and reduce the prohibitions for inshore fishing in Gibraltar, so that local fisherman are not confined to only one spot for 6 months a year.
