University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Letters and Science Spanish Department
Region:
United States of America

The UW-Madison Spanish Department is overcrowded, making the registration process extremely frustrating for students and staff alike. Even students with seniority who have declared their Spanish major are often unable to register for their necessary classes, causing great stress rarely experienced in other departments and fear that they will be unable to graduate when anticipated.

As the popularity of the Spanish major continues to grow, the number of students admitted as Spanish majors should be accommodated by opening additional class sections.

If this is not possible, the number of students admitted as Spanish majors or recipients of the Business Spanish Certificate must be capped to accommodate existing declared students, and students must be clearly informed of the challenges of the registration process.

We, the undersigned, believe that the UW-Madison College of Letters and Science Spanish Department is failing to recognize and accommodate the need of its students and staff for additional class sections.

The Department does not have sufficient seats for declared Spanish majors or recipients of the Business Spanish Certificate in necessary classes.

We, the students and staff of the UW-Madison Spanish Department therefore request that additional class sections be opened to accommodate the demand.
