To encourage creativity throughout District 14, Make: STEAM proposes establishing TinkeringLab at the historic Automotive High School, 50 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn.
Make: STEAM has demonstrated this community’s appetite for hands-on learning with its wildly popular STEAM WORKS festival, where innovative projects illuminate essential topics; Electrochemistry, Color, Sound Design, Air Pressure, Electronic & Acoustic Instruments, DIY Telescope, DNA Extraction, Robotics, Circuit Bending, Geometric Construction- and more!
Make: STEAM has been offering hands-on projects and Labs to schools and programs throughout District 14, including Frances Perkins Academy (now Greenpoint Arts and Technical HS) Lyons Community School, PS 257, PS 132, PS 18, PS 19 and Girl Scout Troop 2822.
With 25+ years of designing creative learning experiences for all ages, including special needs, gifted, and ‘twice-exceptional’ students, now is the time for Make: STEAM to establish an enduring creative space where the potential of hands-on education can take root and grow, to serve students, educators, and the larger District 14 community with the insight and promise of hands-on STEAM education.
For many years, Make: STEAM / Weaving Community has brought innovative educators to engage District 14 students in inspired projects and meaningful experiences.
Now is the time for Make: STEAM to establish an enduring creative space where the potential of hands-on education can take root and grow- to serve students, educators, and the larger District 14 community.
We call on Chancellor Fariña and the NYC DOE to work with Make: STEAM to establish a creative, hands-on Tinkering Lab at Automotive HS / Greenpoint Arts & Technical HS~
This creative initiative will bring countless benefits to its host schools, and all the schools of District 14, by offering direct instruction, professional development, community events, networking, and the annual STEAM WORKS Festival of Curiosity. Join us to establish a home for innovation, ingenuity and creativity in District 14!
