I am sick of hearing about people jumping off the WestGate Bridge, in Melbourne, generally to their demise. The latest atrocity where 4yo Darcey ''Iris'' Freeman was thrown to her death by her father on the 29th January, 2009 is inexcusable!
These events should not be allowed to happen in the first place and the only was to stop them it to erect some kind of permanent "fence" along the sides of the bridge. When is the government "the people" going to start being proactive rather than reactive.
Rather than commiserate with grieving relatives, the deaths of loved ones, and jailing perpetrators of crimes such as young Darcey, stop them from happening in the first place. What is wrong with this world?
We the undersigned request the appropriate government body take steps to eliminate the possibility of more people jumping off or being thrown off the WestGate Bridge in Melbourne, Australia, by erecting a fence of some description along the sides of the bridge.
We request that you put to tender an offer to design some aesthetic solution. We would rather pay for this one expense, through our taxes, than multiple future expenses for confining perpetrators who take advantage of the exposed sides and the sympathetic commiserations to victims and loved ones.
Isn't it about time the world started being proactive in preventing things rather than reactively cleaning up the mess afterwards??
This situation needs to be remedied sooner rather than later.
