Dear Graham,

I would like you to raise the issue of the speed camera at the corner of Batesford Road and Warrigul Road Holmsglen.

I live in 4 Power avenue the last road before this intersection when heading South.

I am informed that this camera is the largest revenue raising camera in Victoria.

I certainly observed over 20 light flashes in 3 light changes one Saturday morning.

Even though I am very conscious of this camera I have had 3 40-45 kph fines (speed limit 40) . On Christmas Day whilst going to church I was clocked at 57 Kph (3 Points and $295). There was no traffic and as I was going to church I thought it was Sunday when the Limit is 60kph.

At no time do I admit I was driving unsafely, and it is hard to tell the difference between 40-45kph without constantly looking at the speedo (thereby taking my eyes off the traffic). It should be noted that both approaches to this intersection are downhill there by requiring constant braking to avoid going over 40kph.

I believe the intersection speed limit should be 50kph as it is well catered for with excellent traffic lights and signs. I am appalled that the Govt will not admit that this camera is not about safety but revenue raising.

I do not believe I can avoid getting enough points that will cause me to have my licence suspended due to this inappropriate camera and speed limit. This will put my employment in jeopardy.

I believe there should be an inquiry into Vic Roads in relation to Speed camera location, the relative accident rate of each location before and after camera installation, the validity of speed limits that are far to low considering the modern car capabilities. All this to be in conjunction with the revenue vs safety aspect of cameras.

I call on the public to campaign for justice for motorists who are being targeted as a cash cow under the cover of pseudo safety.

WE the undersigned request that the Victorian Government conduct an independent inquiry into Vic Roads in relation to Safety vs Speed Camera Location vs Revenue raising and unfair and unjust treatment of motorists by artificially lowering speed limits to create revenue raising opportunities.

As this matter is serious a Royal Commission is called for in this matter.
