The term 'prisoners of conscience' refers to individuals who have not committed any crime, but are imprisoned because the state in which they reside does not tolerate their political or religious views. Here it primarily refers to Falun Gong practitioners, House Christians, Tibetan Buddhists and Uiguir Muslims. In Chinese hospitals and jails, members of these groups are harvested on demand to compensate for the absence of any legitimate national organ source. The bodies of the victims are then cremated.
Falun Dafa (Falun Gong) is a peaceful meditation practice centered on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance. It helps individuals cultivate physical and mental wellness through a set of five gentle exercises, and the development of one's character. It is practiced freely by over one hundred million people worldwide, except in China where it has been violently persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. The large numbers of Falun Dafa practitioners illegally detained in China since 1999 have served as a live organ bank for the Chinese communist regime.

We call on the Irish government to:
1. To ratify, as soon as possible, The Convention against Trafficking in Human Organs which was adopted by the Council of Europe on 9 July 2014 in order to criminalise illegal organ transplantations. The Irish Government has already signed this convention, but is yet to ratify it.
2. To call on the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs committee to follow through on the pledge made by the Oireachtas Sub Committee on Human Rights to "investigate to the maximum extent possible", persistent, credible reports of forced organ harvesting and other severe human rights abuses imposed on Falun Gong practitioners and other prisoners of conscience in China.
3. To call on the Chinese government to end its practice of forced live organ harvesting of prisoners of conscience. And release all illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners in China.
