Domestic Military Sexual Assault Cases Must Be Tried In Civilian Courts

Incidents of sexual assault in the military are increasing despite the military's efforts at addressing these incidents. In fact, a recent report says there are 70 sexual assaults per day in the military. The President has weighed in on the issue saying the military must do better. But, women in the military know that the chances of ever seeing a perpetrator punished are small.

We know their concerns are valid because Air Force generals granted clemency in two cases in which a military trial actually resulted in a guilty verdict. Plus, we have now seen an arrest of the Air Force officer in charge of sexual assault programs arested for sexual assault. Our service women deserve better. The military does not seem up to the task of providing justice, it's time military sexual assault perpetrators are tried in civilian courts.
