This year Dixieland PTA has asked the students and parents to participate  several fundraisers.  We have spent hours selling cookies, and candy.  We were asked to send in money for a Holiday Gift shop for our children to buy Holiday gifts.  Our students were encouraged to sell to "fundraise" for the school with promise of cheap prizes.  We parents have bought Dixieland T-Shirts through the PTA.
Thousands of dollars have been collected by the PTA, and do you know how the money was spent?
Very little of the money has gone to benefit the students.  The majority has been spent on food for the
PTA and food for the teachers.  I am sure the teachers are not aware the bulk of the PTA fundraising money was spent to food and teacher gifts, but it was.
How did very little of the PTA funding go to students?  Because there is no oversight and no accountability.  Most of the time parents are not even told about PTA meetings, and the PTA is not encouraged to share its budget or what the fundraising project is funding.

You probably didn't know that PTA elections are about to take place, and that parents have the right to speak up.  Parents have the right to ask the school to dissolve the PTA.  We do not have fundraise for no reason!

We, the parents of Dixieland Elementary, are petitioning to dissolve Dixieland's PTA, and replace it with three committees: a yearbook committee, a Scholastic Book Fair committee and a fifth grade banquet committee.

We, the parents of Dixieland Elementary, do not feel the PTA has been responsible with PTA money and is working in the best interest of the students it was chartered to serve.

I am signing this petition to dissolve Dixieland Elementary PTA.
