A levy poll is to be conducted in March 2022 based on recommendations from the Dairy Levy Advisory Committee to Dairy Australia. This was then provided to the Australian Minister for Agriculture, David Littleproud MP.
The dairy levy is a compulsory levy that all dairy farmers have to pay, which the Federal Government then contributes to.
Dairy farmers should therefore be given all options upon which to vote for. We are seeking that the poll include for instance a reduction or no levy. These 2 options are not currently part of the Poll.
This is needed to ensure an open, transparent and democratic process.

Due to the lack of appropriate consultation by the Dairy Levy Poll Advisory Committee with dairy farmers in the calling of a dairy levy poll
Your petitioners ask the Senate:
Immediately ask the Federal Agriculture Minister to demand the Dairy Levy Poll Advisory Committee resubmits a full range of voting options in the upcoming Poll including
- reducing the levy.
- having no levy at all.
Review the process as to how a Dairy Levy Poll is called including
• the length of time between polls;
• how the Advisory Committee is structured; and
• ensure adequate consultation with all dairy farmers.
The members of the Dairy Levy Poll Advisory Committee must be independent of Dairy Australia.
