A big thank you to everyone who has supported this. Thanks to a lot of work on the street in Hastings and St Leonards we have collected 3179 signatures, including the online ones, and we are taking the petition to Downing St at 11am on 15th April 2011. We hope the government will take notice of this, but also all the other voices raised across the country. Fair cuts for all...
The proposed cuts to government funding across the UK are seen as inevitable, but the way they have been divided up has meant that some towns are facing more than the average, and in our case significantly more for a town which is amongst the most deprived in the country.
External funding for the next 2 years, according to government figures, will drop by 30.7%, a figure accepted as accurate by our MP. This is set to get even worse by 2014, possibly to as much as 47%. We are asking for no more than our fair share of cuts, or for additional funding.
We the undersigned are aware that Hastings is amongst the most deprived towns in our country, yet because of cumulative cuts faces a 30% drop in external funding over the next two years.
We recognise that cuts are inevitable but the proposed cuts are unfair and disproportionate. We call upon Her Majesty's Government to reduce the cuts here or offer some additional funding.
The Cut the Cuts for Hastings petition to HM Government was written by Rev Chris Key and is in the category Justice at GoPetition.
